Mike Huckabee Calls Beyonce's Music "Toxic Mental Poison"

Update: People magazine reports that the former Arkansas Governor also criticized the Obamas for allowing their daughters to listen to Beyonce's music.

The relationship between Brooklyn, New York rapper Jay Z and his wife, Beyonce is one of a number of topics discussed in politician Mike Huckabee’s new book, "God, Guns, Grits and Gravy.”

In an excerpt from the book, obtained by U.S. News, Huckabee appears to praise Beyonce while criticizing Jay Z. He addressed the pair while sharing his thoughts on their performance at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

"My reaction: Why? Beyonce is incredibly talented – gifted, in fact,” Huckabee says in his book, according to U.S. News. “She has an exceptional set of pipes and can actually sing. She is a terrific dancer – without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom. Jay-Z is a very shrewd businessman, but I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?"

The critique by Huckabee doesn’t serve as the first time the high-profile couple has received criticism for their actions. In 2013, Beyonce and Jay Z were criticized by Florida Senator Marco Rubio after taking a trip to Havana, Cuba.

Months after their Cuba trip, a sit-down between the couple and Harry Belafonte was called for after the musician criticized Jay Z and Beyonce for turning “their back on social responsibility." It is unclear if a sit-down with Belafonte was ever scheduled.

Mike Huckabee’s "God, Guns, Grits and Gravy” is scheduled for release later this month.

Update: People magazine reports that Republican Mike Huckabee describes Beyoncé's music as
"obnoxious and toxic mental poison in the form of song lyrics" in his upcoming book, God, Guns, Grits and Gravy. People also reports that during an interview with the publication about his book, Huckabee criticized the Obamas for allowing their daughters Sasha and Malia to listen to Beyoncé's music.

"I don't understand how on one hand they can be such doting parents and so careful about the intake of everything," Huckabee reportedly stated. "... How much broccoli they eat and where they go to school and making sure they're kind of sheltered and shielded from so many things—and yet they don't see anything that might not be suitable for either a preteen or a teen in some of the lyrical content and choreography of Beyoncé, who has sort of a regular key to the door [of the White House]."
